Work on the geoportal of the Castle Museum in Łańcut is almost over. Visitors to the modernised website will have access to maps showing the Castle and its interiors along with the entire surroundings.
A few facts
The Geographic Information System (GIS) collects, stores and makes available data on the museum’s resources. The Castle Museum in Łańcut was inspired to use the GIS by the Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanów. First, a detailed measurement documentation of the area was prepared, which allowed for obtaining and updating the basic map. Then, data on the flora of the castle park were applied to it. The maps in the Łańcut geoportal present not only the Castle itself, but also other historically valuable buildings and structures related to it: Stable, Coach House, Manège, Riding Hall, Orchid House, Gardener's Building, Clerical Casino, Granary, Guardhouse I and Guardhouse II, and the Romantic Castle.
Course of work
During the project, photogrammetric documentation was prepared for 26 historic interiors of the Castle-Museum in Łańcut, along with descriptions and photographic documentation. Then, 136 antique decorations were separated from them and made available together with descriptions and photographs. Measurement documentation of the area was also prepared, making it possible to obtain and update the basic map along with supplementing the missing objects on the map. An architectural inventory of 4 historic buildings was prepared. Then the design was developed and the structure of the GIS database was built. Measurement documentation was introduced to it, i.e. a map of the area, architectural projections of buildings and their floors, ortho-images and vector views of the interiors. The database was supplemented with descriptive data for 264 objects with English translation and photo documentation.
Virtual museum
Detailed information on historic buildings is presented at geoportal.zamek-lancut.pl. It also includes projections of individual objects made as part of the project. After clicking on a given room on the plan, visitors to the Castle's website will be able to view its photos and learn about the history of a given place. All the places described will be available to visitors to the website of the Castle Museum in Łańcut. Thanks to the project, the spatial data is now available and will be used not only for further internal activities in the museum, but also for educational purposes and further popularisation of the cultural heritage.
