Operational Programme Digital Poland – project “www.muzeach”

The project “www.muzeach” („In museums”) aims to provide public access to digital resources of five museums maintained or co-maintained by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. These include: Museum of King Jan III’ Palace at Wilanów (project leader), POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, National Museum in Lublin (former Lublin Museum), National Museum in Szczecin and Castle Museum in Łańcut. The project provides for the development of infrastructure for the digitisation and sharing of digital resources of the museums. The main objective is to make different resources of various kinds available in one place, in a simple form, and for free – and thereby to improve access to resources offered by participating institutions in digital form. The project complies with the specific objective of the Operational Program Digital Poland: digital availability and usefulness of public sector information. Cultural resources of museums as national cultural institutions fit the definition of public sector information.

The target audience of the project are, among others, people interested in art and history, scientists, academics, students, teachers, pupils, curators, hobbyists, and tourists. Its implementation will also facilitate home schooling and cultural education. It is seen as one of the most effective ways of building and transferring cultural identity, patterns, habits, and norms.

Easy access to cultural heritage will enable:

  • providing information about collections within the digital resources of museums (images with descriptions in both Polish and English, including geographic information system – GIS);
  • multisearch website integrating scattered resources of partner institutions (in accordance with the recommendation of the International Council of Museums, ICOM).

Digitisation and the implementation of innovative sharing methods will increase the availability of national cultural resources in digital form.
