At the end of 2018, we presented a film entitled Shadow and robots - how museum works, commissioned by the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace in Wilanów by the creators of the Historia bez cenzury [History Uncensored] YouTube channel. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, about forty people came to the meeting with the filmmakers.
Historia bez cenzury is a well-known and extremely popular Polish YouTube channel with many subscribers. As part of the “Restoration and protection of the symbol of the Polish cultural heritage – the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace in Wilanów” project, the creators made a film which answered a number of (sometimes sensitive) questions concerning the appearance and organisation of exhibitions in the palace interiors and gardens. The questions concerned issues such as why it is usually very dark in some rooms in the palace, whether we really show only original artworks, why people can’t go everywhere in the palace and see all the exhibits, and what the various strange objects – dehumidifiers, mats, roller blinds – do in the rooms.
The educational meeting was an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and find out many details about filmmaking – where the ideas for scripts come from, what the work of the film crew looks like, how the finished materials are received by the audience. A few questions also concerned the renovation works carried out by the museum on the first floor of the palace, not only regarding the date of their completion, but also about the shape of the new exhibition. The issue of colour scheme of the palace’s façade is also of constant interest to the audience. However, this is not the end of the museum's cooperation with Historia bez cenzury. Another film about the course and results of the whole project is being made. Its premiere will take place in December 2019.
