One of many engraved portraits of King James II/VII, which were made during his reign, but also after the outbreak of the ‘Glorious Revolution’, as a result of which he was deposed and had to flee to the France. This engraving features a bust of the king in an oval, decorative frame. Below the image is a shield with the emblem of the Order of the Garter, with the motto of the order: HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE—shame on anyone who thinks ill of it.
