The first star
Do you know Christmas traditions? Do you know where the custom of decorating the Christmas tree came from, why Christmas Eve dishes and carols are so special? During a walk around the Palace, we will tell you how people spent holidays in the past.
These are classes about Christmas traditions related to home decoration, Christmas dishes, and Christmas music. We will show you that the figure of Santa Claus, commonly depicted today as a plump dwarf in a red suit, has little in common with his prototype – a bishop with a chasuble and mitre. We will also think about how the Christmas tree was decorated in the past and where this custom came from, why Santa Claus brings gifts, and how Christmas was celebrated in the past. During classes, we will also refer to the story related to the birth of Jesus, which can be seen portrayed in paintings at Wilanów.
