The Muti family had two palaces in Rome, located next to each other: the Palazzo Muti on the Piazza dei Santi Apostoli and the Palazzo Muti on the Piazza della Pilotta. After 1719, the Pope rented and renovated for the Stuarts the larger of the two, on the Piazza dei Santi Apostoli, which became known as the Palazzo del Re (the King’s Palace). At the end of the street on the right, behind the Palazzo Muti, can be seen the wing of the Palazzo del Re, where King James and Queen Clementina’s sons, Princes Charles Edward and Henry Benedict, had their apartments.
