Polish is a foreign language for deaf people as their natural language is sign language. For deaf or hard of hearing people, audio information is unavailable or only limited. But not only. Written information is also difficult, especially when the language is complex and colourful. Written information on a website or exhibition makes it very difficult to understand or prevents access to the information at all.
Solution
The solution is the natural language of deaf people, i.e. sign language.
For whom?
The recipients are, of course, deaf and deafblind people. However, information in Polish Sign Language can also be a source of knowledge for sign language interpreters. Thanks to new translations, they can improve their translator skills.
Our proposals
As part of the project, translations are being prepared to provide our visitors with information about individual exhibition rooms and selected objects. Video guided tours for children will also be made available in sign language.
The project is carried out as part of the project entitled “Culture without barriers” financed by the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development (POWER) 2014-2020, Measure 4.3 Transnational cooperation, implemented by the State Fund for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, the Culture Without Barriers Foundation and the Institut für Bildung und Kultur e.V. (The Institute for Education and Culture, Remscheid, Germany).
