Along with mores, deportment, and traditions, the distinct cuisine of the old Commonwealth testifies volubly to its rich culture.
This culture was typified by elaborate ceremonies, such as funeral rites lasting for days, celebrations of military triumphs, or ceremonial entries. Like the uncommonly original fashion, the old Polish cuisine also deserves a special mention, with its copious use of spices and its combinations of tastes often driven by a pursuit of surprising twists and originality, even at the expense of making the dishes challenging for the palate.
