Product description

The forgotten work of Alessandro Melani (1639–1703) Golia Abbattuto is a political oratorio that had its premiere in Rome in 1683–1685. The simple shepherd David, a subject of King Saul, who defeats the giant Goliath is John III Sobieski, who defeats Kara Mustafa and the Turkish troops near Vienna, but above all, he saves Christianity for Europe. The oratorio, revived after over 300 years, recalls the memory of the Battle of Vienna and its heroes, as well as the art of Alessandro Melani – one of the most valued Roman composers of the second half of the 17th century, brother of the famous singer-castrato Atto Melani. Wilanów Palace Museum and the ‘Wilanów Academy’ Association on the occasion of the 330th anniversary of the Battle of Vienna, prepared a recording of a 17th century oratorio, which was previously known in musical notation, available only to specialists.
