Product description
Scholarly work and introduction: Joanna Orzeł
A treasury of various sources... tells about what an 18th century nobleman knew about the history of his homeland and how he wanted to present it to future generations. Originally written for his sons, it was prepared with the intention of publishing it in print, but it remained in manuscript form for over 250 years. The author discusses and strongly emphasises the past of the Polish-Lithuanian state as a whole, while most sylvas – records popular among the Polish nobility, containing notes on various topics, written down on an ongoing basis – present the history of Poland and Lithuania separately. The original, colourful narrative is complemented by numerous illustrations carefully selected by the publisher.
