Product description

Author: Katarzyna Karaskiewicz

As the author rightly emphasised when summarising her considerations, Stanisław Kostka Potocki was not a creative scientist. But although he did not create any original concept, this in no way devalues the legacy he left behind. He was a great erudite, art connoisseur and educational activist – a man convinced that the Polish ‘enlightened classes’ must learn about the achievements of European science. He was one of those members of the late Enlightenment establishment who – in very difficult political conditions – considered supporting the development of Polish culture to be their main task. There is no doubt that in the case of Potocki we are dealing with a figure of great stature, who deserves to have his memory systematically maintained.
