Product description
Ed. Marcin Szeląg
The publication is a summary of the conference of the Museum Educators Forum entitled ‘Education in new museums and cultural institutions. Expectations, realities, prospects’, organised in June 2018 in Poznań thanks to the cooperation of the TRAKT Cultural Tourism Centre – the operator of Brama Poznania heritage centre, the Faculty of Artistic Education and Curation of the University of Arts in Poznań and the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów, with the support of the National Institute of Museology and Collections Conservation.
‘The publication edited by Marcin Szeląg, PhD addresses a number of issues related to new departments created within existing museums, museums after major changes, and those that are still in the process of being organised. The selected problems include both those related to the exhibition itself and those related to the ‘background’, i.e. management and organisation. The texts also present a wide range of substantive perspectives. Interestingly, they do not always, as it might seem, work in a complementary way; sometimes they are the opposite to each other. Despite all the diversity mentioned above, it is possible to distinguish several categories according to which the projects and articles by museum educators describing them have been organised. The first concerns interactivity and multimedia. The next one refers to the locality or universality of both the programmes themselves and the entire museum policy. The above-mentioned issues relate to the functioning of permanent and temporary exhibitions. The authors of most of the texts are practitioners, which is an additional advantage of the publication. It is therefore a forum for the exchange of thoughts and experiences. A fragment of the review by Piotr Szaradowski, PhD
