Product description
Author: Roman Marcinek
Roman Marcinek wrote a truly unique book, both learned and popular and both historical and current. This is about the history of the ‘tobacco herb’, which plant is the last victim of black public relations, and not only the legendary ‘black tobacco’, from which the greatest cigarette delicacies are still made today. However, the brutal persecution of smokers is not exclusive to today. The author, an excellent expert on the subject, recalls the pathetic example of the ‘first European tobacco maker’, Mr Rodrigo de Jerez, who was dealt with by the Inquisition, because smoking was then considered a sign of friendship with all devils. He ended up in prison for seven (!) years. And this is a book full of great anecdotes and vivid descriptions, and at the same time competent to the core. Pardon me, until the last 'smoke'. This in no way means that Mr Marcinek's book promotes any anti-health behaviour that is contrary to the aseptic spirit of our times. On the contrary, the author systematically emphasises the health role of tobacco throughout history. And everything is well written, just perfect for reading, so this is not just a history lesson. But considering today's anti-tobacco, anti-plant and anti-nature movements, it is also a lesson in tolerance.
