Product description

Author: Konrad Morawski

King Jan III, a man of broad horizons and a ruler aware of the role of science and art, had a richly decorated library room in the palace in Wilanów. The preserved interior design gives us clues about Sobieski’s interests and allows us to imagine how he devoted himself to what (according to sources) was one of his greatest pleasures – reading. The book attempts to decipher the content contained in the decoration of Jan III’s library and partially reconstructs the history of its creation. The analysis of individual works of art and contextual studies made it possible to formulate conclusions regarding the original arrangement of decorations and their ideological overtones. An important part of the study is the indication of graphic patterns used by the designers of the decor.
