Product description
Author: Andrzej Witkowicz
Is it possible to re-describe an event in European history that – as we thought – we already knew everything about? It is possible, as long as they are presented from a perspective that has so far been ignored on this occasion. Such an original point of view is brought by the new entry from the ‘Silva Rerum’ series, written on a grand scale by Andrzej Witkowicz. In the book ‘The Red Banners of the Ottomans’, the author looks at the Vienna campaign of 1683 from the perspective of the Turkish army and shows how it prepared for the great war with Europe. The presented work not only brings innovative findings regarding the Ottoman Port described on the basis of a rich source base, but also changes our perception of the siege of Vienna. The decisions of Vizier Kara Mustafa, carefully reconstructed by the researcher and presented against the background of previous military campaigns, prove that the Turkish army was perfectly prepared for the Battle of Vienna, and the victory of Jan III Sobieski should be considered even more significant.
