The Ethical Museum. A Book Dedicated to Professor Stanisław Waltos on his 85th Birthday - is a modest expression of the admiration and respect with which the professor of law, an outstanding criminal expert, and an honorary doctor of many universities is held by the community of Polish museologists. Ethics – as a key area for the functioning of museums – has always been close to the birthday celebrant. He was a translator and commentator of the ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums, and at the same time, as the director of the Jagiellonian University Museum (1977–2011), he taught us how to reconcile the world of art, science, humanities and personal freedom with the letter of principles, honesty and common sense. All the texts included in this publication, written by outstanding Polish humanists and museologists, were created especially for this publication, consisting of three parts: I – Museum: ethics, truth, practice; II – Of course… in Krakow, and III – Places, stories, problems. The eighteen articles are preceded by: Tabula congratulations, an interview with the Professor entitled ‘Museums in my life’, a text devoted to his activities, a letter of wishes from Krystyna Zachwatowicz and Andrzej Wajda, and closed with a bibliography of Professor Stanisław Waltoś's works focused on museological issues and dilemmas of culture and law.
