The book ‘Warsaw Plates in the years 1822–1914. Assortment, recipient and custom’ by Joanna Paprocka-Gajek is devoted to the production of plates in Warsaw over the century, from the establishment of the first plating factory to the outbreak of World War I. In addition to discussing the history of larger and smaller Warsaw plating companies, it includes drawings of many previously unpublished signs used by manufacturers, which enable identification of the manufacturer and precise dating of products. In the subsequent, richly illustrated chapters, the assortment of plated tableware is analysed against the background of 19th century moral patterns and its recipients. The publication is accompanied by a CD presenting 28 original catalogues and price lists of Warsaw plating companies.
