The 22nd volume of Wilanów Studies is a collection of papers that were delivered during a two-day seminar ‘Polish-Italian relations in the era of Jan III Sobieski’, which took place at the Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanów in September 2012. (…) The inspiration for this Polish-Italian-Czech meeting and its scientific patron was Professor Mariusz Karpowicz, PhD. The materials collected in this volume present a broad context of modern European culture and art. Against this background, in the last quarter of the 17th century, the royal residence in Wilanów was built, decorated and equipped. Its style, architectural form, iconography, as well as the historical and ideological content contained in the decoration refer to the same source as the issues presented in the articles published here.
