The course of cooperation between Potocki and David and the phenomenon of the development of a specific legend of the work, which interwove artistic threads with the story of the moment of equestrian triumph over a previously untamed stallion from the stable of the King of Naples, are still intriguing. The painting was made in 1780–1781 and is one of the most outstanding paintings of Poles. It is also considered one of the most appreciated works of Jacques Louis David (1748–1825).
